Cylinder head covers
Function:
In many modern four-stroke engines, the cylinder
head cover houses the upper actuation elements of
the engine control unit as well as the valves in the
crankcase ventilation with all its peripheral devices
It also prevents leakage of the lubricants in the
environment. Additionally, it protects the engine
from dirt or other foreign objects.
SYMPTOMS
• Seal is leaking: Vehicles leak oil
• Smell of oil when running
• Valves blocked: jerky engine running, in
extreme cases the engine light lights up
until engine damage occurs
REASONS FOR FAILURE
With advanced mileage the following
problems arise:
• Seals become leaky and have to be
replaced
• Integrated valves for the crankcase
ventilation clog up frequently
• Holders of the cylinder head covers
tear if improperly mounted and also
sometimes due to age
CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES
• Engine oil leaks out
• The engine does not run smoothly
