The AVL DiTEST workSAFE is used in the workshop to perform safety-relevant measurements on the high-voltage system of vehicles with an electric drivetrain. In particular, these measurements include verifying the absence of voltage, checking the equipotential bonding and measuring the insulation resistance.

workSAFE allows you to verify and document the deenergized condition of the vehicle quickly and reliably. This is essential in order to safely carry out service or repair work.

With workSAFE you can precisely check the equipotential bonding, to avoid dangerous potential differences between different components of the high-voltage system. In addition, insulation faults can only be reliably detected by the insulation monitor device in case of proper equipotential bonding. Testing the insulation resistance requires applying a test voltage that is at least equal to the battery voltage of the vehicle. workSAFE generates voltages of up to 1500 V DC and is thus prepared for future vehicle generations.

You can as well measure the insulation resistance on the active high voltage system according to SAE J1766. workSAFE is also available in a version adapted to the Chinese GB 18384-2020 standard. Equipped with a pluggable 3rd measuring line, it allows you faster and more accurate measurement results regarding the insulation resistance.

The AVL DiTEST micrΩHM measures the internal resistance of single modules of traction batteries as well as the contact resistances at the connectors between the modules (busbars) and the resistances of the busbars itself. The compact design combined with intuitively guided software allows to carry out the measurements in the workshop – quickly, easily and accurately.

The internal resistance is a key indicator for the state of health of a battery module. A healthy battery pack has both internal resistances of the modules as well as resistances of the busbars low. These resistances may increase with aging or when battery modules and busbars get defective. If a high current is then called up, e.g. when accelerating, the battery can overheat. This leads to a voltage drop and thus reduces the power output of the battery. In the worst case, an increased resistance can even cause a fire in the battery.

By measuring and comparing the internal resistances of different modules within the battery pack, those with increased resistance can be found and replaced. micrΩHM can measure precisely even very low resistances in μΩ-range and is therefore capable to find bad contact points or damaged busbars. Moreover, you can use micrΩHM to assure a proper installation of new modules and their connections, because dirty or not fully tightened busbars will show a higher contact resistance.

EValuate is a battery-operated measuring device specially designed for the Periodic Technical Inspection (PTI) of vehicles with high-voltage systems. It is used to measure the safety-relevant parameters of potential equalization, insulation resistance at the AC charging port and to check the immobilizer.

The measuring device consists of a charging port unit, which can be plugged directly into the vehicle's AC charging port, and a connected test probe with integrated display.

EValuate can be used as a stand-alone device or connected to external software via WLAN. This connection allows automatic documentation of the measurement results. Additional information can also be transmitted to the device and shown on the display, for example to ensure that the measuring points are carried out in a set sequence and that no measuring point is forgotten. This enables flexible and reliable work around the entire vehicle.

All measurement results are automatically evaluated by the measuring device and displayed in color so that test engineers are supported in evaluating the results.

Your traction battery is the most valuable part of the electric vehicle. In order to extend the life of the battery as long as possible, we have developed the AVL DiTEST rightCHARGE 11 kW for you. The rightCHARGE 11kW is our latest battery module conditioning system. It allows you a fast and safe repair of different types of batteries: When an individual module in a traction battery gets defective, you need to replace it. After identifying the defective battery module, you must remove it from the battery pack. In the next step, you have to adapt its SoC (State of Charge) according to the SoC of other modules in the battery. Otherwise, the BMS (Battery Management System) will not activate the repaired battery. Hence, the conditioning of new battery modules is crucial, to successfully install the new module into the battery pack and finalize the repair process.
