ABS STEERING & SUSPENSION
ABS STEERING & SUSPENSION
Description
STEERING & SUSPENSION
The ABS range of steering and suspension parts consists of more than 8,000 items. Whether it’s cast iron, sheet metal or the ever more common aluminum, ABS supplies it. Good rubber mountings have a major influence on a comfortable driving experience and ABS therefore sets high requirements for these parts. Rubber compliant to ASTM D412 is used for the covers of steering parts. This type of rubber is extremely flexible, UV and oil resistant. It is heat resistant up to 80 °C. Steering and suspension products are included with fitting instructions to extend the product lifetime.
SUSPENSION ARMS
Suspension arms are a key component of the suspension. Suspension arms (or track control arms, as they are also referred to), form the link between the chassis and the wheels, allowing the car to steer and allowing the wheels to move up and down. Suspension arms are exposed to water, dirt and salt. To ensure a long service life control arms are fitted with high quality components and are coated to prevent rust. The suspension parts undergo many forces and need to be able, to deal with different road and weather conditions.

AXIAL RODS/TIE ROD ENDS/TIE ROD ASSEMBLIES
Axial rods and tie rods, together also known as the tie rod assembly, form the link between the steering knuckle and the steering rack. They are essential to make steering safe and comfortable. The housing is produced with the help of a CNC machine. This results in the precision fit which ensures smooth movement of the joint inside of the housing. The rubber dust covers on the products help to keep the grease in and dirt out of the joint.

BALL JOINTS
The ball joint is a crucial component in the suspension of any car. It is the main joint that allows the wheels to steer. It provides structural support, in combination with the right amount of movement. The ball around which the joint pivots is made of high grade, hardened steel and is precision machined. The housing is engineered to form a precise fit. Ball joints are greased and sealed as it is of crucial importance that no water, or filth penetrates the housing.

STABILIZERS
The stabilizer connecting rods are used to connect the anti-roll bar to the suspension arms. The anti-roll bar is an essential part which limits body roll when cornering. The connectors are very strong, but the joints are highly flexible at the same time. The joints are protected with rubber dust covers, which offer protection against water, filth, oils, road dirt and salt. Stabilizers are available in different kinds of material, such as steel, aluminum and plastic.

MOUNTINGS
The mountings allow the suspension arms to move up and down. They provide just the right amount of flexibility to the suspension system while still being both safe and comfortable. The bushings need to be able to withstand vibrations, pressure and temperature changes. Most are composed of metal inner and outer sleeves vulcanized to a rubber core. Hardness and shape of the rubber core can be varied to give different suspension characteristics; Solid bushes are stronger but restrict movement and transfer more vibrations.
