The LIFT-O-MAT from Stabilus is available in two standard versions:

With dynamic extension damping, this gas spring can open doors and lids in any mounting orientation up to a specified position, where it will gently stop the motion. This reduces wear and tear on the joints and hinges and prevents collisions with the garage ceiling or wall.

With dynamic compression damping, the LIFT-O-MAT is suited primarily for engine hoods where the hood is to be dampened gently when it is closed, reducing wear on the material.

Function

With a special longitudinal groove inside the pressure tube, the damping properties can be optimized to the application. Differing compression and extension characteristics can be realized, as well as dampened approaches to intermediate positions.
By increasing or reducing the groove cross section, the speed of motion over the entire stroke can be adjusted as desired. The motion can be slowed down until it almost comes to a stop.

STAB-O-SHOC HD24/HD29 is a hydraulic vibration damper for high loads.

Stabilus also provides a wide range of special forms, for example for force transmission without a return stroke in any direction of movement. The characteristic curve can be adapted individually at the factory. Different piston variations allow decreasing, progressive, or almost linear curves. Pressure-loaded and length-controlled variations are also possible.

Areas of application are, among others, seat dampers and motion dampers with high force requirements for especially heavy flaps.
One special design is the overrunning brake damper in automotive design.

The force required to operate a lid is also affected by the ambient temperature.

In a strut, the Stabilus gas spring is combined with a mechanical spring, which can be located on the inside or outside. This combines the advantages of the gas spring (speed control, end position damping) with those of the mechanical spring (little temperature dependency).

The effect of temperature on the extension force is reduced considerably, since the load is distributed between the gas spring and the mechanical coil spring.

This allows reducing the closing forces at high temperatures without increasing the opening force in cold temperatures (-30 °C).
