In an engine, all parts need to move smoothly all time and that is possible by the use of an Oil pump. It sucks up oil from the oil pan and sends it to each part and it is usually installed within the oil pan. Every moving spot in an engine needs lubrication, so the oil that passes through the oil pump takes on the role of providing lubrication. The oil pump circulates not only oil, but also incompletely burnt carbon residue that is carried along by its pressure, which it then screens for reuse by passing it through an oil filter.
