Bodywork repairs – what does the future hold?

In terms of the motor vehicle / bodywork trade, a key pillar of garage business is the repair of vehicle bodywork. This business sector is also increasingly impacted by new developments from motor vehicle manufacturers

The use of new materials and qualities of steel in motor vehicle manufacture continues to grow. The application of these ‘high-tech’ materials likewise has a big impact on the repair of the components concerned and will be an important issue for accident repair work in the future.

The introduction of new materials in motor vehicle manufacture necessitates changes to the way accident repairs are carried out. To some extent this involves modifications to existing methods, but also the adoption of completely new repair techniques in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines. It also requires in part new tools and equipment, e.g. welding equipment. As a consequence, with respect to accident repairs, the concept of ‘repairs in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines’ also takes on a new significance from both a technical and legal perspective.

In addition, there are also an increasing number of motor vehicles in circulation with alternative drive systems. When working on motor vehicles with gas powered or hybrid engines inappropriate application can result in a risk to employee safety and health.

The 2nd technical forum for bodywork and paint will provide information concerning the innovative developments and materials in motor vehicle manufacture. The potential implications of the term ‘repair in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines’ for car / bodywork businesses will be highlighted from a technical and legal perspective. Alternative methods for repairing modern motor vehicle bodywork will be presented. In addition, the general conditions will be explained which must be taken into consideration both for work on the body as well as the subsequent paint finish of motor vehicles with alternative power sources.

Take advantage of your associations’ offer to participate in the 2nd joint organised event, the ‘technical forum for bodywork and paint’ with lectures, top class speakers and the opportunity to discuss with colleagues.

With warmest regards
