Automechanika Asia From 2003, we can expect to see exciting developments and opportunities for the regional industry, market liberalisation with the implementation of AFTA (Asean Free Trade Area).
From the 4 biggest markets of ASEAN, that is Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia, the total sales in 2001 exceeded 1 million units, an increase of 8% over year 2000. In the 1st 8 months of 2002, the total sales already exceeded  850,000 units, an increase of 15% over the same period in 2001. From among the big 4, Malaysia accounted for the majority of the consumption-over 57% of the total ASEAN sales.
